Alexander began this year's leg in Annapolis, Maryland. With bridges,
traffic, construction and detours to
contend with, Alexander pedaled along, on an at-times-grueling route. Undeterred, Alexander completed his journey 523 miles north, in Newport, Rhode Island. The
biggest challenge? Perhaps finding a motel room at the New Jersey shore in the
height of high season. "It's right up there," says, Alexander, who recalls one night spent at the only place with a vacancy within 35 miles - a not-so-state-of-the-art campground. "It was good to have a place to rest," - although it wasn't exactly sleeping under the stars, says Alexander. "It was more like "sleeping under the steering wheel of the minivan." To
date, Alexander has raised more than $16,000 for programs and services that support
women and children who are victims of domestic violence.
"I’m really glad I did it. Especially since the economy has put such a damper on fund raising."
